copyrights for Music -

There are two types of copyright that are used for music: a musical composition copyright and a sound recording copyright.  A musical composition copyright covers the music and lyrics in a work.  A sound recording copyright covers a specific recording of a musical work.  For example, a sound recording copyright is used when an artist makes a “cover” of someone else's song and wants to protect their new recorded version of the song.
